RED NATION FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES
A NIGHT OF TRIBUTE AWARDS HONOREES

LOS ANGELES, CA, November 8, 2008 -- The 5th Annual Los Angeles Red Nation Film Festival, founded by American Indian Awarding wining director Joanelle Romero and presented by Red Nation Celebration, are pleased to announce their honorees for this year's A Night of Tribute Awards Ceremony, with Master of Ceremonies actor Jay Tavara and feature film screening of Frozen River.
President Obama will be honored with a Red Nation Vision Award, Governor Richardson will be given the “Edward Albert Jr Indigenous Film Award,” Marlon Brando will be honored with the “Brando Award,” George Burdeau will receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award,” TNT Network will be given the “Best Network Award,” and Pechanga Tribe will be honored with the “Best Heritage Film Award”
The gala ceremony will take place at the Aratani/Japanese America Theater, downtown Los Angeles on November 13, 2008.
The 5th Annual Los Angeles RED NATION FILM FESTIVAL will pulsate through the Entertainment Capital of the World November 13-16, offering outstanding examples of American Indian contribution in film, in the media and in our culture at large--with screenings, panel discussions, music, celebration and ceremony--as only America’s first peoples can provide.

The Festival theme, "Red is Green," serves to expand the boundaries of how American Indians have typically been defined in our culture and to also inspire audiences with the sacred personal relationship to Mother Earth that our tribes have kept alive.
“We are excited to have these extraordinary talented human beings honored for their outstanding work and creative vision at this year’s festival,” said Joanelle Romero, Founder and Executive Director of the Los Angeles Red Nation Film Festival. "Each of these artists and leaders has made a significant contribution to cinema in their respective professions, and has contributed positive portrayals of American Indian presence in the media, on screen and in our culture.
ABOUT THE HONOREES
President Barack Obama, for his insightful, profound vision and his inclusive nature of American Indian culture.
New Mexico Governor Richardson, has been a progressive leader within the American Indian film community in the State of New Mexico which directly affects us all.
Actor & Activist Marlon Brando, a true activist in regards to American Indian Movement and the industry.

American Indian Director George Burdeau, first American Indian to become a member of the director’s guild, George Burdeau has directed over 60 films.

Network TNT, for their leadership within the industry in their outstanding portrayals of American Indian stories.

Pechanga Tribe, for their history in storytelling of California Indians.

Master of Ceremonies, Jay Tavara has managed to captivate the audiences all over the World in the last few years, you may have seen him on screen flirting with Meryl Streep The Missing, marching to Civil War with Jude Law Cold Mountain, galloping across New Mexico with Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones Adaptation; and winning Keri Russell's heart in Steven Spielberg's recent mini-series Into the West.
